The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a free, searchable directory that indexes high-quality, peer-reviewed open-access scholarly journals from around the world. It is community-driven and independent, supported by donations and partnerships but maintaining all its services and data openly accessible to all users. The mission of DOAJ is to increase the visibility, accessibility, reputation, usage and impact of quality research published in open-access journals, regardless of discipline, geography or language. To be included, a journal must meet rigorous criteria: it must publish all content openly (free to read), have clearly defined reuse rights, conduct a peer-review process or equivalent, and demonstrate editorial transparency. For researchers, DOAJ serves as an excellent starting point to find reputable open-access journals for publishing or reading; for institutions and funders, it acts as a benchmark of trusted open-access publishing.
