Perceptions of Islamic Education Teachers (GPI) on the Teaching Approaches of Sirah in Secondary Schools

Teachers serve as the primary drivers of change, acting as agents to develop human capital. Therefore, Islamic Education Teachers (IET) play a crucial role in producing well-rounded students in terms of knowledge, character, and skills by employing appropriate approaches to the subject of Sirah. This is because previous studies have shown that teachers still rely on traditional methods that are not aligned with 21st Century Teaching Approaches (PAK-21). Hence, this study aims to examine the teaching and learning approaches (T&L) in the field of Sirah as well as the need for Sirah education in the Islamic education curriculum. The objectives of this study are to identify the perception levels of Islamic Education Teachers (IET) toward Sirah teaching approaches in secondary schools. The methodology employed is a quantitative approach using a survey instrument tailored to the context of Sirah teaching. Data was collected from IET respondents teaching in secondary schools in Johor Bahru. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0. The findings reveal that the Sirah teaching approaches implemented based on PAK-21 demonstrate a high level of effectiveness. However, certain approaches, such as those incorporating technological media, are at a moderate level. The study also provides suggestions for suitable Sirah teaching methods that can enhance students' appreciation and understanding of the subject.
