Abstrak

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan Tahap Kecekapan Membaca murid Tingkatan 1 melalui pelaksanaan Program Bacaan Bahasa Inggeris di Bucal National Integrated School (BNIS) di Filipina. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan reka bentuk kuantitatif melibatkan sejumlah 494 murid Tingkatan 1 daripada sebelas (11) kelas. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan ujian pra dan pasca yang disahkan, dengan penilaian kefahaman bacaan berstandard. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan intervensi yang berjaya: semua murid menunjukkan keupayaan membaca dan memahami, tanpa wujud pembaca tidak berkeupayaan dalam ujian pasca. Penggunaan bahan pembelajaran yang dikontekstualkan turut menunjukkan peningkatan yang ketara dalam kefahaman bacaan. Kajian ini menyediakan bukti empirik yang menunjukkan keberkesanan program, sekali gus menyumbang secara signifikan kepada pembangunan sekolah dan pencapaian akademik yang lebih baik. Secara keseluruhan, kajian ini memberi maklumat penting kepada pihak berkepentingan dalam pendidikan tentang kepentingan kefahaman membaca dalam meningkatkan pencapaian akademik dan kesejahteraan murid Tingkatan 1.

  • Mhel Cedric D. Bendo, College of Business Administration, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Cavite, Philippines

    Mhel Cedric D. Bendo is a student researcher whose work spans educational psychology, technology-mediated learning, and artificial intelligence in education. His research examines learner behavior, assessment, and educational outcomes through quantitative and psychometric approaches. His interests include educational measurement and construct evaluation, with attention to equity and multilingual learning in diverse, technology-enhanced educational contexts. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

    As of 2026, Bendo holds a formal honorary appointment as an International Editorial Board Member for SIAR Publications (Society of Innovative Academic Researchers). He serves as an Editorial Board Member for the SIAR-Global Journal of Humanities, Management & Educational Review and as an Editorial Board Reviewer for the SIAR-Global Journal of Literatures & Educational Review. In these roles, he contributes to the peer-review process, provides advisory input on editorial policy, and supports the development of education-focused and interdisciplinary research journals.

    He also serves as an invited peer reviewer for international, peer-reviewed journals across online and distance learning, educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, educational psychology, educational measurement and psychometrics, health education, information literacy, interdisciplinary undergraduate research, and science and vocational education. His review work supports journals indexed in major scholarly databases, including Web of Science (ESCI), Scopus, ERIC, and DOAJ, and focuses on methodological rigor, theoretical grounding, ethical publication standards, and clarity of scholarly research.
